The Dash for NASH: A Managed Care Perspective
Course Description:
Although no drug is currently FDA approved for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), the pipeline is plentiful. The first agent to market will be a big specialty deal. The FDA has provided guidance for industry regarding clinical trial design and expected efficacy endpoints. However, even with this guidance, there are many questions surrounding the right patient population for these drugs.
This session will include a health plan’s preliminary analysis of the potential pool of patients with NASH, discuss the needed inputs for an estimated budgetary impact model, and provide perspective regarding efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness of drugs approved for NASH.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss NASH, including clinical manifestations, current treatment options, and pipeline.
- Describe one health plan’s NASH population and the components and limitations of a budget impact model designed to estimate cost avoidance and trend modeling.
- Review what payers need to know about NASH in order to manage budgetary expectations.
