Activity Description

Benefit designs and management tools promoting high-quality care while simultaneously addressing total cost of care, are critical for improving value in oncology. However, there are many challenges around defining value in oncology care and discerning which interventions are best utilized to promote value.. Various value frameworks and alternative
payment models in oncology have provided some insight into possible next- generation oncology management. These models however have not led to widespread adoption and may lack the ability to scale. Meanwhile, payers are still struggling to mitigate the rising trend in oncology.

Established payer management tools need to be repurposed in order to bring innovation to oncology management. Tools such as utilization management must be adapted to address the increasing complexity of oncology treatments including an expansion of oral therapy options and the explosion of precision medicine. In the era of precision medicine,
appropriate oncology drug utilization is inseparable from genomic testing and yet genomic testing remains largely unmanaged or is completely disconnected from the drug therapy management. Patient management programs can fill gaps in service such as palliative care.  Unit cost management strategies must also be adapted in unique ways to increase value.  Programs such as dose optimization and oncology site-of-service programs improve value within the context of delivering clinically appropriate but high cost therapies. In this webinar, oncology management approaches that consider all of these facets of management and develop holistic solutions to ensure patients receive high-quality, high-value oncology care will be explored.
